The Crucible

The Crucible

The Crucible is basically about witches who caused the death in this story.  The first death scene takes place is when Mrs. Putnam's children murdered by the witches.  Mrs. Putnam was is in so much is pain and sorrow because she has lost her children and the last daughter Betty was not waking up or wasn't moving at all.  She was not moving because her and other girls were dancing in the forest.  That's why she is afraid to confess that.  Many people came and tried to know what was going on and it took place in Parris' house.
During the movie and the story a lot of people slandered of being a witch, even if they weren't, others just accused each other.  One example would be John Proctor.  Many people thought and accused that he was a witch and actually he wasn't.  He only tried to save his life, his wife's life and other innocent people's lives from the accusation of being witches.  However, no one believed him.  Abigail is one of the main characters in this story and she is the witch.  She lied to everyone and she was one of the reasons why John Proctor died.  Many believed Abigail was right and correct because her action was so real and believable.
At that period of time, being a witch was a crime because of the witches villages got destroyed and people had died.  The punishment of being a witch was to get hanged in front of the crowds.  That's how most of the innocent people have died in this story because they thought they were witches.  They would blame each other, accuse each other, lie to each other, they did everything that could take to save their lives.
John Proctor stood for himself and for others until the last minute.  He believed that "It's better to die for what you believe in rather than to lie to save your life" which he had done that.  He had a chance to live but it was to live under a lie and he didn't want that.  He died with a pride of being John Proctor.  Only few people were on his side and actually believed that he was innocent but others didn't.  At the end he and some other innocent people got carried on a cage and got hanged.
